Book #2 in the Matched Series by Ally Condie. Ky and Cassia navigate a harsh wasteland trying to find the resistance. Every horny teenager's fantasy.
Author: Ally Condie
Pages: 367
Genre: Dystopian YA
Listened to audiobook
Recommended to: Sexual tension junkies
Song: "Love Me Now" by John Legend. (Because who knows if there will be a later.)
The girl on this book cover has to have come from a stock picture of a Twister game. I mean, come on, how can you anatomically break free of anything in that stance?
This book is every horny teenager's ultimate fantasy. Separated from The Society (and all other authority), Cassia and Ky are free to kiss and canoodle around all they want. (Don't worry parents, the romance in this book is strictly relagated to kissing.) Realistically, someone would be thinking about sex.
Your Typical YA Book 2
Do YA dystopian series come in anything fewer than 3 installments? "Crossed" has all the parts of a typical book 2:
Separation from the civilization structure introduced in book 1.
Harder living conditions
Mysteries unraveled..to reveal more mysteries
Opportunity for main characters to choose the resistance
Introduction or continuance of a love triangle..in this case a love quadrangle. The showdown could just be nuts!
Here we have a group of teenagers going through a harsh landscape avoiding the eye of The Society like Bambi in the thicket. YA as usual.
Yet, I'm still Curious About Some Things
Like...why the need to preserve people? Where does this figure into the whole assigned life thing?
Or...who is really evil? Indy or Xander?
The Audiobook
The audiobook is well narrated, but features mood music completely randomly during some tense moments. Not needed.
Potential Spoiler Section
This is not meant to be a standalone novel. It begins where "Matched" left off and ends like "The Fellowship of the Ring". Literally. Some people jump in a boat and others have to run along the shore.
"Crossed" was a shadow of the series starter, "Matched". It's the story that started in the first book that has me interested in the third one.
