Journalist Supreme
Dan Harris is a news correspondent for ABC. He is on 2 shows I never watch: "Nightline" and "Good Morning America". He also saw some hardcore stuff as a foreign correspondent in the middle east. Even though I didn't know who he was before this book, I have a lot of respect for him. After having a panic attack on live T.V., he tried to find a better way to handle his massively stressful life.
Here's the backstory:
Not So Zen
Harris relates his investigation of stress reduction methods for the majority of this book. He eventually embraces meditation and mind-calming practices. What is interesting to me is that his attempts to be 10% Happier are approaches 100% secularly. He takes practices and acts that are grounded in religion and applies them without a belief system. This might work for some people, but it felt incomplete to me.
As a memoir, this is interesting. As a self-help book, it is ineffective. All-in-all, it's not really a good read. I would love to read a book that focuses on his experiences as a journalist, should he ever decide to write one.
Audiobook
As with most memoirs, Harris himself narrates. His relaxed, almost drawling voice is pretty much the least stressful sound ever. He should narrate more books.
