Kaz Brekker and crew return to the streets of Ketterdam in this amazing sequel to "Six of Crows".
Title: Crooked Kingdom
Series: "Six of Crows", Book 2
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Pages: 536
Genre: Fantasy
Recommended: If you like good tricksy characters or fantasy worlds. And if you liked "Six of Crows"
Song: "Flower" by Moby. (Shout out to a favorite heist heist movie "'Gone in Sixty Seconds".)
Market vs. Reality
I said this when I reviewed "Six of Crows", and I can't help but reiterate: this really isn't just YA. Leigh Bardugo is also the author of the "Grisha" series (same world, later time period), which definitely is YA. I feel like this series is being marketed as the same genre, when it can appeal to a much larger audience.
No Good Men in Ketterdam
Ketterdam is one gangster city. It as bred some complex characters with many layers and compelling backstories. These awesome people encounter villians around every corner. It's exciting to know that you can't trust anyone, and even more gripping when the characters you know and love are in peril, time and time again.
Audiobook
The recording of this book has a full cast of 8 narrators! I love, love, love when this happens. Lauren Fortgang (who also narrates "Shadow and Bone") is amazing. Each "crow" in the gang is voiced so well, with one exception. Wylan's narrator matches him wonderfully, as he annunciates each world like an aristocrat's son would, but his voice for Kaz is HORRIBLE! Give that man a second chance.
