This, the unspoken agreement between myself and Jodi Picoult, is something I forget about between reading each of her novels.
And they get me. Every time. They wrench at my heart and expand my understanding of the human condition.
Small Great Things is certainly not about small things, but it tackles the great and controversial topic of racism in modern day Connecticut. Racism exists, and it is stronger than most people want to believe.
While I think of myself as a loving person to people of all races, my white skin limits my perspective of this world. I needed the kick in the head that this book gave to me. I recommend it, highly.
