What I Thought*
The action/ adventure/ thriller genre is one that I haven't delved too far into. I only have Tom Clancy, Dan Brown and Tom Clancy as comparisons. If I were to compare this author's first works to theirs, I would term it "coming-of-age spy thriller". Ricciardi navigates on a global level, clearly knowing his geography, culture, laws, and motivations of the different places and peoples that are represented. I enjoyed Zac's story.
I do feel like it could have used a little bit more oomph. I wanted Zac to be fleshed out a little bit more. I wanted a grand-scale meltdown with world-ending consequences. I liked the main story, but just wanted more. That being said, the book is set up perfectly for a sequel, and I could definitely see this story developing into something bigger as the tale continues.
Write that sequel, David Ricciardi (if you haven't already). You've got a definite reader, here!
Recommended
If you are new to the thriller genre. This is a good starting point.
