"Prodigal Girl" by Emma Wright

Goodreads giveaway regret! This snooze of a wonderlust novel (and I suspect loose memoir) is not worth the time. I’m shaking my head as I write this review. There are 2 versions on Goodreads and I can only assume I got the unedited one.

I wanted so badly for this “Eat, Pray, Love” wannabe to grow from a superficial account of hostels, hitch hiking, getting laid and skinny dipping, but was disappointed. Instead, the main character (ahem author) bounces around Southeast Asia and Oceania, switching between present and past tense as freely as her bikini tops. Though, she did pick the right part of the world to wear the latter.

More power to the author if this was a fun experience, but they should have done their research. They claim American nationality, but tout British vocabulary. I get the feeling that the ultimate goal was to convey meaning, but the book was like a cheap scratch-and-sniff sticker: it took effort to read with a disappointing reward.

Now the guilt sets in! I’m sorry to trash this, Emma Wright. It’s hard to take in a world of experiences and convey their life-changing properties. Sign me up for a later edition, I'll try it out!

Song: "Around the World" by Daft Punk. because (athough I have liked it since my pre-teen years)

it's way too long, doesn't cover much content , and goes around the world, just like this book.
